7,000,000,000 dents in the world
The earth is home to over 7 billion people. 7 billion!
Look at it!
7,000,000,000
7,000,000,000
It is beyond comprehension.
Estimates are that over 100 billion people have lived and died on our little slice of Terra Firma.
Looking at our planet from the vantage point of mars, if no one was there to point us out we would appear as nothing but another light in the sky. Pull back further, much further, and locate our place in the galaxy. What in the hell are we doing way over there? If you had to guess, where would you expect to find us?
Imagine the violence and blood that has poured out over so many tiny pieces of ground.
The battle of Hastings, Agincourt or Waterloo.
Spend some time imagining the bloodshed that this little patch of ground has seen.
War. Plague. Religion.
How much time has been allocated for love, redemption or peace?
Always the talk, the dream, seldom the reality.
Always the talk, the dream, seldom the reality.
Like ants we busily bustle and fret over a million mundane things.
In the great scheme of things
what really matters?
Naked a man comes from his mother's womb,
and as he comes, so he departs.
He takes nothing from his labor
that he can carry in his hand.
Kerouac said, "My whole wretched life swam before my weary eyes, and I realized no matter what you do it's bound to be a waste of time in the end, so you might as well go mad.
Both my parents have passed on. They're dead. No longer with us. I fondly remember sneaking my Dad an Italian submarine sandwich while my mother was away at work. The smile and the mischievous gleam in his eye while he enjoyed a food from off the "do not eat" list was precious. I remember the stress, the hard work and the worry as they struggled to live out the American Dream. The world's dream. And for what end?
What is important? What really matters?
100 billion people have already lived and died upon this little piece of rock out in the middle of nowhere.
What's one more?
What is important? What matters?
Are we but a miniscule number waiting to be absorbed into the 100 billion?

We are too busy in our tiny world, and this is the way it is. It's all sense of ego that plays the role where we think this body and other bodies surround us are the reality of life, that's the world we love. But who knows the expansion of love!
