Beyond our Differences

I would like to bring a short film to your attention. Bill Moyers aired this on his program the day after Christmas.

The title of this film is from the poet Rumi who stated it like this;
Beyond our Differences there is a field. I will meet you there...

This Being Human.....is also taken from a poem from Rumi...

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

During this time of the year when we resolve to be "better" I thought that this film, as well as the words of Rumi were entirely appropriate and words that we do need to hear. I would also like to leave you with this;

Come, come, whoever you are.
Wonderer, worshiper, lover of leaving.
It doesn't matter.
Ours is not a caravan of despair.
Come, even if you have broken your vow
a thousand times.
Come, yet again, come, come.
