This Being, um, er, ah, Human.....

The Human behind the blog, This Being Human....is concerned with the same things as you are. Health, (affordable health care) finances, (a good job) the future of mankind, (politics) religion-spirituality-God...(?/?)
Health is an ongoing concern. I have found more aid in the quiet corners than I did in the hospital or in a physician's office. Pain and other medications are like an oil change; they are needed and aid in the essentials of maintaining as normal a life as possible but there is more to a great auto than regular oil changes.
I found personal growth (new tires, hub cap and a wax job?) when I began to read Bernie Segal M.D. and Alan Watts which helped to lend some insight into my health and my mind's relationship to my health. Of course, this was just the opening of a rather large door that is still not fully open. (I still have to suck in the gut and squeeze through)
I'm often reminded of the story of the Jews wandering in the desert for forty years never being able to comprehend the "trusting God" thing. Whether you are Christian, Zennist, Tibetan Buddhist or Taoist, they all contain teachings akin to the idea of trust; or faith.
As it has been said, "Faith is not belief. Belief is passive. Faith is active."
The mind's eye may be focused differently in each but the faith being activated is the same in each if it is really faith; and not belief. There is a huge difference.
Although my finances are really scary to look at, I lack for nothing. Sure, I wish that I had a new 2007 Ford F-150 extended cab 4x4 and all the gas I need. I wish that I could go out for dinner or a show. That I could actually go on a vacation. (what the hell is that?) I bought my home (on faith) when I was twenty five years old and had two young sons. After paying the mortgage I had $10 for gas for my VW Super Beetle and $20 for everything else. We thought that if we lost the house, well, at least we tried. That first year almost gave us a nervous breakdown. In many ways it is like we've come full circle. Minus the breakdown though. It would be nice to have some kind of a cash flow. The only solution it would seem is to sell my home and move. I am not agreeable to that. I would rather be broke. (although the south of France would be nice)
For politics (see last post) Those at the top of the proverbial heap are quick to have us at the front lines while they command from the rear. What did they say about Patton? He was all blood and guts; yeah, our blood, his guts."
The conservatives have never forgiven FDR for the new deal. They want to return to a time of "true freedom. "A time in which if there were to be social and economic inequalities, well, God gave humans equal rights, not equal abilities." The party of less government has never been bigger and plays a bigger role in our lives than a regular change of underwear.
The liberals have gone the way of all American capitalism; if you don't like what you see, either join them or buy them.
As for Religion-spirituality-God....That is your choice. Your freedom.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;
Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his god, [the people, in the 1st Amendment,] declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, thus building a wall of separation between church and state. ... no man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship, place, or ministry whatsoever, nor shall be enforced, restrained, molested, or burthened in his body or goods, nor shall otherwise suffer, on account of his religious opinions or belief; but that all men shall be free to profess, and by argument to maintain, their opinions in matters of religion, and that the same shall in no wise diminish, enlarge, or affect their civil capacities. (Jefferson)
Let no man or politician tell you anything different. Let's keep it where we can choose to look or look away. It's your personal freedom.

You're assessment of both parties is spot on! Although I'm not quite sure how we're (the people) are going to change it without a massive overthrow of our entire 2 party system.
